Medvedev called the referendums in the Donbass the restoration of historical justice

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev supported the holding of referenda on joining the Russian Federation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. In his opinion, this is of great importance for the “systemic protection” of the inhabitants of Donbass and other controlled territories. He also believes that the referenda will restore historical justice.

“They completely change the vector of Russia’s development for decades. And not only our country. Since after they are held and new territories are accepted into Russia, the geopolitical transformation in the world will become irreversible,” Mr. Medvedev wrote in his Telegram channel.

He noted that in the event of a direct attack on the territory of Russia, the country will be able to use “all the forces of self-defense.” And due to the peculiarities of the Russian Constitution, which does not provide for the abandonment of territories after the reform in 2020, “no future leader of Russia, not a single official will be able to reverse these decisions.”

Yesterday, September 19, the Public Chambers Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics called for an immediate referendum on joining Russia. Heads of the DNR and LNR agreed synchronize preparations for referendums. Also, the pro-Russian authorities of the Kherson region announced the need for an early referendum. Kirill Stremousov, who calls himself the deputy head of the military-civilian administration of the region, announced referendum statement for today. The authorities of the Zaporozhye region, which is approximately two-thirds controlled by Russia (with the exception of the city of Zaporizhzhia itself and the territories adjacent to it), have also previously spoken about their desire to join the federation, but so far they have not made any new statements.

It should be noted that in July Dmitry Medvedev spokethat if the threats of an attack on Crimea from Kyiv come true, then for Ukrainian politicians there will come a “judgment day”. Since then, the armed forces of Ukraine have repeatedly shelled the Belgorod and Bryansk regions, as well as Crimea and Sevastopol.
