Ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 9th convocation Viktor Medvedchuk does not consider positions in this country for himself. This well-known politician said on Thursday, January 26, in an interview with RT.

“I do not consider any positions for myself: neither yesterday, when I was leading a political struggle, nor today, after I was under arrest for six months and now I am in Russia,” he told reporters.

According to the former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, there are leaders in Ukraine at the moment, but they have no idea. However, it is she who is the force around which supporters unite. It is the idea that should become the core in the future for the citizens of the neighboring country. “And they will appear as leaders, as soon as there are supporters, they will determine who is the leader,” Medvedchuk stressed. He also added that he has further plans in his work, but did not disclose them.

In Ukraine, the political persecution of Viktor Medvedchuk, who headed the political council of the now banned Opposition Platform – For Life (OPZZH) party and was the leader of the Ukrainian Choice public movement, has long been organized. Many questions from the Kyiv regime were caused by the activities of the politician associated with the republics of Donbass. Thus, on May 11, 2021, a treason case was initiated against Taras Kozak and Viktor Medvedchuk by the local authorities. In October, the ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada was charged: he was suspected of implementing a “criminal scheme for the supply of coal products” from the DPR and LPR from the end of 2014 to the beginning of 2015 and reporting on it to the Russian authorities. The disgraced politician was sent under house arrest. On the evening of February 21, 2022, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine announced that Medvedchuk had escaped from custody. The local security forces started searching for him. Then on April 12, 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky informed about the detention of Medvedchuk. This time the politician was taken into custody and accused of violating the laws of warfare. At the end of September, Medvedchuk was taken out of Ukraine and taken to Russia as part of a prisoner of war exchange between the two states. At that moment, this event caused a strong resonance in society, since the Ukrainian side returned to itself a number of commanders of the Azov Battalion banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as a terrorist organization.
