Media: Chinese ships approached disputed islands in the East China Sea

Two Chinese maritime police ships appeared on Saturday off the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea. Information about this was published by the agency Kyodo. Japan has previously repeatedly claimed its rights to this territory.

According to the agency, two more Chinese ships are on duty at a short distance. One of them is equipped with weapons resembling an automatic cannon.

In September 2012, Tokyo announced the purchase of the Senkaku Islands from their owners, who are US citizens. This caused a wave of protests in China. For ten years now, Chinese ships have been patrolling the area near the disputed archipelago and demonstratively entering the coastal zone.
