French President Emmanuel Macron had a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday. This is stated in the statement of the Elysee Palace.

“They have returned to the situation around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which remains very worrying,” the statement posted on the palace’s website said.

The release also states that Macron and Zelensky reiterated the need to guarantee the safety of nuclear installations at nuclear power plants and supported the work of the IAEA in this matter.

And besides this, the presidents discussed “the needs of Ukraine, in which France could help.”

The largest in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity, the Zaporizhzhya NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the city of Energodar. ZNPP is under the protection of the Russian military. AFU regularly fire at Energodar and the territory of the station.

Earlier, on September 5, Zelensky’s office reported that the President of Ukraine had an hour and a half conversation with Macron, during which Zelensky called for the withdrawal of Russian forces from the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

Macron, according to the office, said that ensuring the security of the ZNPP could be achieved “only through the withdrawal of Russian forces.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the control of the Russian troops over the station is justified in order to avoid the prevention of leaks of nuclear and radioactive materials.
