President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya received President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, informs press service of the Abkhazian leader. This is Lukashenka’s first official visit to the republic as head of state. The meeting took place at the state dacha in Pitsunda.

“Yesterday we discussed the problems of Abkhazia with our older brother [президентом России] Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. We discussed these issues a lot, until the night, and came to the same conclusion that Abkhazia should not be abandoned. She needs help so that this flourishing land, the people who live here, live normally,” Lukashenka said.

The Belarusian leader suggested discussing the issues “how to live on, how to strengthen relations.” He noted that Belarus and Russia are coordinating their actions on such issues.

“Russia is ready to lend its shoulder. Perhaps the time has come. Today, more than ever, we have seen what the world has become. We will not be allowed to live in peace. Therefore, we must strengthen relations with friends,” Lukashenka concluded.

Despite the declaration of independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the 1990s, Georgia still considers them to be its territories. In 2008, Russia recognized the independence of the republics. Also, the independence of states is recognized by Venezuela, Syria, Nicaragua and Nauru.

In February, Vedomosti wrote about the fact that an integration commission, which will include representatives of Russia, Belarus and Abkhazia, should work on the platform of the State Duma. the purpose of the commission is to create conditions for accelerating the recognition of the sovereignty of Abkhazia by Belarus, as well as ensuring its participation in Eurasian integration projects implemented at the initiative of Russia.
