The President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko proposed, within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), to hold competitions in summer Olympic sports in 2024, and in winter – in 2026.

“We propose to consider the possibility of holding within the framework of the SCO complex international competitions in summer Olympic sports in 2024, in winter – in 2026,” – quote his RIA Novosti.

Lukashenka also agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin that sport should unite peoples, but now he, in his opinion, words“massively politicized by the West.”

In 2024, the Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris, and in 2026, the Winter Olympic Games will be held in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Earlier today, U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Chair Suzanne Lyons statedthat sanctions can be lifted from Russian athletes suspended from international competitions, tk. sports officials are beginning to take the view that “individual athletes should not be victims of any government policy or tension in the world.”

On February 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that international federations remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions under their auspices. Most federations have followed this recommendation. At the moment, Russian athletes can compete under a neutral flag in individual tournaments in chess, MMA, tennis and judo.
