Lufthansa subsidiary pilots go on strike

The pilots of the German low-cost airline Eurowings – a subsidiary of Lufthansa – carry out a one-day strike demanding a reduction in their workload and higher wages. According to Eurowings, about half of the 500 flights will have to be canceled today because of this. It is expected that this will affect about 30 thousand passengers.
The pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) went on strike on Tuesday. Prior to that, he held ten rounds of negotiations with representatives of the airline. Pilots are demanding a reduction in workload—increasing rest time between flights and reducing the maximum possible duration of work in a row. In addition, VC is demanding higher salaries for pilots.
This summer and September, there were several strikes by Lufthansa employees, both ground personnel and pilots. With the airline’s ground staff already managed to agree. Pilots’ last strike so far passed in early September, after which Lufthansa and VC came to a partial agreement.
