Moscow needs additional clarifications from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the report on the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP, they have already been requested. About this Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Interfax at the Eastern Economic Forum.

“There is a need to get additional clarifications, because the report contains a number of questions. I won’t list them now, but we requested these explanations from the Director General of the IAEA,” Lavrov said.

Previously published IAEA report on ZNPP commented Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya at a meeting of the UN Security Council following the mission’s trip to the station. He expressed regret that the organization did not indicate in the report the source of the shelling of the ZNPP. Nebenzia also stressed that Russia complies with the principles of safety at the facility. According to him, the experts were able to see for themselves that “the only threat is the shelling and sabotage by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

6 September IAEA published report on the results of the mission to ZNPP. The organization called for an end to attacks on the station and the establishment of a safe zone around it. At the same time, experts did not specify who was shelling the object. The report also says that several events have been recorded at the ZNPP since spring that violate the principles of nuclear safety, and that the delegation itself witnessed the shelling.

On September 1, the IAEA mission arrived at the ZNPP territory due to regular shelling of the station during August. Experts inspected the area, accompanied by representatives of the Russian “Rosatom” and employees of the nuclear power plant. The delegations also showed the sections of the facility that had suffered from shelling by the Ukrainian military. At present, there are two IAEA specialists as permanent observers at the NPP.
