Latvia refuses to issue humanitarian visas to Russians avoiding mobilization

Latvia will not issue humanitarian visas to Russians who are trying to evade partial mobilization. This decision was made for security reasons. wrote on Twitter, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics.

“For security reasons, Latvia will not issue humanitarian or other types of visas to Russian citizens who evade mobilization, and will not change the border crossing restrictions imposed on September 19 for Russian citizens with Schengen visas,” he said.

Since September 19, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland have closed entry for Russian citizens with EU tourist visas. At the same time, the authorities of the countries specified that they would continue to issue visas to Russians for humanitarian and diplomatic purposes.

This decision was made by the Baltic countries and Poland after the Prague meeting of the EU foreign ministers, which took place at the end of August. Then the entry ban for Russian citizens was not supported by all member countries of the union. As a result, the European authorities came to a compromise and abandoned the simplified procedure for issuing visas. Now the process of obtaining a Schengen visa has become more expensive and longer. However, this decision did not suit the Baltic countries and Poland. They promised to take additional measures themselves.

Earlier today Russian President Vladimir Putin announced partial mobilization in the country. Thus, only citizens who are in the reserve are subject to military service, and above all those who have served in the ranks of the Armed Forces, have certain military registration specialties and relevant experience.

At the same time, in the State Duma notedthat they do not plan to restrict the movement of those liable for military service. In Rostourism also assuredthat Russian citizens can freely leave the country. Airlines of the groupAeroflot"(the group includes Aeroflot, Rossiya and Pobeda"), S7 and Russian Railways reported that they continue to sell tickets without restrictions.
