Ukraine handed over Ukrainian writer Yan Taksyur convicted of treason to Russia

Ukraine handed over to Russia the Kyiv journalist and writer Jan Taksyur, who was accused of high treason. According to information from social networks, he was released as a result of the exchange procedure.

It was reported that a 71-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years in prison because his journalistic materials “harmed the sovereignty, territorial integrity, security of Ukraine, undermined the morale of the population and the army.” In addition, the court ruled to confiscate half of his property.

It is noted that for several months the writer was in a pre-trial detention center, where he was tortured despite the fact that he had cancer. According to preliminary information, the reason for bullying Taksyura was that he advocated unification with the Russian Orthodox Church, and also wrote poems about love for Russia and condemned the actions of the Ukrainian authorities.
