The Chess Federation of Russia will become the first Russian sports structure, which, against the backdrop of sanctions, will change its European “registration” to an Asian one. About it writes “Kommersant” with reference to the executive director of the FSR Alexander Tkachev.

It is reported that the transition from the European Chess Union to the Asian Chess Federation will be formalized in late February – early March. The federation believes that Russian athletes will have more practice in the Asian region. They also opine that the level of competition in Asia is already higher than in Europe.

According to director Tkachev, the CFR transition must be approved by the congress of the Asian Federation, and “the entire package of documents necessary for the transition” has already been sent, including to the International Chess Federation. Tkachev added that the FSR voted for the transition back in April last year, and the relevance of the idea became “even more obvious.”
