“Kommersant”, referring to representatives of the office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, said that Moscow and Kyiv had exchanged prisoners. As part of the exchange, 49 servicemen and politician Viktor Medvedchuk were transferred to Russia.

In turn, 215 captured nationalists were handed over to Ukraine. At the moment, the Russian authorities have not commented on this exchange.

It should be noted that Viktor Medvedchuk is a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, the head of the Ukrainian party “Opposition Platform – For Life”. He has been under house arrest since May 2021 and escaped in February 2022. He was arrested in April this year.

According to the Ukrainian security officials, Medvedchuk committed high treason. In Ukraine, he faced up to 15 years in prison.
