Karatekas from Sakhalin won 10 medals at the All-Russian competition in St. Petersburg

The national team of the Sakhalin Region successfully performed at the All-Russian karate competition “Nevsky Torch”, dedicated to the anniversary of the lifting of the blockade of Leningrad. The competitions, which took place in St. Petersburg, brought together about 1,200 athletes from 19 regions of the country. This was reported in the press service of the regional Ministry of Sports.

The most successful performance in men’s kumite, in the 84 kg category, was demonstrated by Daniil Petrakov from Sakhalin – the athlete consistently defeated three opponents, becoming the champion of the competition.

In the weight category up to 67 kg Evgeny Son won the silver medal.

Among athletes weighing up to 60 kg, the national team has three medals – silver was won by Nikita Bolshakov, two bronze medals were won by Dmitry Cho and Lee Yong Bok. In the absolute weight category over 84 kg, Konstantin Kokovurov won a bronze medal.

Third place in the team competition in the 18+ age category was taken by Daniil Petrakov, Evgeniy Son and Konstantin Kokovurov.

Bronze award among boys 14-15 years old over 70 kg was earned by Stepan Semykin.

As part of the Nevsky Fakel children’s tournament, Ulyana Starikevich won a gold medal in kumite up to 30 kg and silver in kata.

In total, the national team of the Sakhalin Region won ten medals: two gold, three silver and five bronze and took sixth place in the team medal standings out of 19 regions.
