In Japan, the country’s oldest person, Gisaburo Sonobe from Tateyama, died at the age of 112.

Gisaburo Sonobe was born in November 1911, the last known Japanese born during the Meiji era. On April 2, 2024, Gisaburo Sonobe became the oldest living man in the world after the death of long-lived Venezuelan Juan Vicente Perez Mora.
