Japan wants to conclude a peace treaty with Russia, despite the difficult relations between the countries, as it believes that the absence of this document for 77 years after the end of World War II is regrettable. This statement was made by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

“It is extremely regrettable that 77 years after the end of the war, the issue of the northern territories remains unresolved, and a peace treaty has not yet been concluded between Japan and Russia,” the Japanese prime minister said.

Kishida noted that at the moment relations between Russia and Japan are very difficult due to the special military operation in Ukraine. At the same time, the Japanese government intends to resolve the territorial issue and conclude a peace treaty.
