Izvestia: Turkey proposes to create a separate bank for servicing Mir cards

The Turkish side has already proposed a number of alternatives to the Russian Mir payment system, and one of them is the creation of a separate bank. This was reported "News" with reference to the director of the Russian-Turkish Business Council (RTBC) Alexei Egarmin. Previously in the media appeared information that all Turkish banks left the Mir system.

“The Turkish government said: if banks behave this way, we will try to find an alternative to the operation of Mir cards. They are doing it now. Perhaps it will be a special bank or a special system based on blockchain settlements or closed clearing. Perhaps a separate center for calculations. We are looking for and will present in the coming days - this is the position of Turkey,” said Mr. Yegarmin.

He believes that Russia has had time to move to more modern platforms, such as cryptocurrency-based decentralized finance.

Mir cards are no longer accepted in Turkish banks amid the possible imposition of US sanctions, which do not want global credit organizations to help Russia circumvent restrictions. According to Turkish media, to develop an alternative to the Russian payment system instructed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
