Sergey Shubochkin, Managing Director of the Acquiring Division at Sberbank, told how the transaction will take place: “At the checkout, the buyer will be able to choose biometrics as a payment method, after which the equipment will start the process: you smile – the payment has passed.” According to him, now there is a debugging process and a dialogue with chain stores.

As Shubochkin emphasized, there are many technological difficulties with biometrics. For example, when paying, it is important to make sure that a live person or a photograph is standing in front of the terminal. Sber will buy terminals with 2D cameras, since terminals with 3D cameras are expensive for the bank, Shubochkin commented.

Sber began collecting customer biometric data in December 2018. Biometrics is a reliable form of data protection against fraudsters, since the face and voice cannot be faked, Sber said.
