It turned out why prices for this popular product in Russia are growing slower than the inflation rate
Experts attribute this to high competition
The cost of honey in Russia has hardly increased compared to last year. Experts from the Check Index analytical center came to this conclusion after collecting data on honey sales throughout the country.
Experts compared data on honey sales from January to August in 2024 and 2023. The average purchase price for 1 liter (1.4 kg) was 698 rubles, which is 6% higher than a year ago. It also turned out that people began to buy honey less often, but only by 3%.
Experts note that Russians, as a rule, buy honey in non-chain retail stores, as well as at fairs and markets. Despite difficult weather conditions and a pestilence of bees, according to official sales passing through cash registers, there is no noticeable increase in the average check; the price tag growth is even lower than the inflation rate. This is facilitated by high competition in the beekeeping business. The situation changed in August; analysts explain this by rising prices for honey, which created a slight stir and even led to an increase in the number of purchases, more in online retail.
Experts have also found that natural honey is most often purchased in volumes of up to 1 liter or in large jars of 3 liters. In the second case, in order to provide yourself with honey for the winter season with one purchase.
