International handball tournament “Balkan Bridge” started in Voronezh

From Thursday, September 29, to October 2, Voronezh will host the second international handball tournament “Balkan Bridge”, organized by the Interregional Center for Assistance to the Development of Handball (ICWG) with the support of the regional Handball Federation. The events will take place in the sports complex “Sogdiana”.

About 20 handball players (girls and boys born in 2009) will take part in the competition. These are representatives of not only Voronezh handball schools, but also guests from other regions, in particular, teams from the LPR and DPR. It was also reported about handball players from Belarus. By tradition, representatives of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and official representatives of the Balkan Peninsula were invited to the tournament.

Winning teams will be awarded cups and diplomas, players and coaches will receive medals in addition to diplomas. Also, in each of the teams, the best players will be selected, who will be awarded with memorable prizes and certificates.

The initiator of the tournament and the head of the ICSWG, Evgeny Osenkov, noted that recently the interest in the Balkan Bridge tournament has grown significantly and now the organizers will consider holding an autumn tournament as well. Representatives of the CIS countries will take part in it, in particular, the teams of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have already announced their desire to come to Voronezh.

Recall that last year 13 teams from the regions of Russia and the near abroad took part in the tournament. The winners then were: representatives of Slavyanoserbsk (LPR) among boys and the St. Petersburg team of the Moskovskaya school of sports schools among girls. The Voronezh team managed to take only the third place – among the boys, the team of Verkhnyaya Khava became the bronze medalist, among the girls – the women’s handball team from Ramon.
