Inter RAO announced an 80% reduction in electricity supplies to China
By the end of 2024, Russia will supply less than 1 billion kWh of electricity to China, compared to 3.1 billion a year earlier, said a member of the board of Inter RAO (MOEX: IRAO) Alexandra Panina. Currently, deliveries are 80% below the 2023 level.
“We expect less than 1 billion kWh for the year. This is very little, because just recently we had 4.7 billion kWh annual volume,” said Ms. Panina on the sidelines of the conference of the “Energy Consumers Community” association (quoted by TASS).
The member of the board of Inter RAO believes that the reason for the decrease was restrictions due to low water content and a deficit in the unified energy system of the East. "System operators do not provide volumes to enable exports due to the regime-balance situations of the Far East territory," added Ms. Panina.
Total electricity exports for the year are projected to be 7 billion kWh, compared to 10 billion kWh in 2023.
According to Chinese customs statistics, in the first six months of this year, Russia supplied China with about 465 million kWh of electricity, which is 76% less than the figures for the same period last year. reported Earlier, Kommersant reported that if the volume of deliveries does not exceed 1 billion kWh by the end of the year, this will be the lowest figure in history.
