In the Zaporozhye region, an attempt on Balitsky was prevented

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) was preparing an assassination attempt on the head of the pro-Russian military-civilian administration (VGA) of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, said Maksim Ivanov, a resident of Melitopol, who was detained by the security forces.

According to him, appeals demanding the collection of information regarding Balitsky’s place of residence and movements came from an anonymous person via Telegram. At first, it was about distributing pro-Ukrainian leaflets. After that, the anonymous person transferred 1,400 hryvnias and persistently asked for the coordinates and photographs of the head of administration’s house.

“I understood that he wanted to eliminate Balitsky, information was being collected, and this could be related to the referendum, which, as they said then, would be on September 11,” Ivanov added (quote according to RIA Novosti).

In addition, the man said that in late May – early June, another curator under a female pseudonym contacted him, who offered him and his cohabitant to put up leaflets. After completing the task, he was offered to arrange a terrorist attack for 6,000 hryvnia, blowing up the railway tracks.

On September 16, there was a series of attacks on government officials in the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), as well as pro-Russian administrations in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. As a result of an explosion in the building of the LPR Prosecutor General’s Office in Luhansk, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, the head of the department, Sergei Gorenko, and his deputy, Ekaterina Steglenko, were killed. This information was confirmed in his Telegram channel by the head of the LPR, Leonid Pasechnik. He blamed the Ukrainian authorities for what happened, without specifying the details of the incident.

In Berdyansk (Zaporozhye region), on September 16, deputy mayor for housing and communal services Oleg Boyko and his wife Lyudmila, who headed the city election commission, were killed. Kherson was also hit. Around 11:00 Moscow time, a rocket attack took place on the building of the VGA, its representative said. As a result, the driver of the head of the department of labor and social policy of the CAA, Alla Barkhatnova, died.
