In the US, the crypto exchange Coinbase is suspected of violating the securities law

On Wednesday, March 22, the American cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase reportedthat she received a notice from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), in which the regulator points out "potential violations of the securities law." Such a notification is not an official accusation - if the regulator does not receive an explanation from the company that suits it, the accusation will become official.

This is not the first time the SEC has accused cryptocurrency companies of not registering cryptocurrencies as securities. For example, in February, the SEC sent a similar notice to Paxos, and the New York State Department of Financial Services Compliance demanded from the company to suspend the issuance of new tokens. The attention of American regulators to the cryptocurrency sphere has intensified after a loud collapse last fall, the FTX crypto exchange.

Coinbase said they are ready to cooperate with the SEC investigation. At the same time, the crypto exchange called the checks carried out by the regulator “superficial” and noted that the SEC did not answer the question of which Coinbase assets needed to be registered as securities. The regulator's investigation into Coinbase was first reported in July last year.

Coinbase shares fell 13% after the end of trading on Wednesday.
