In Russia, they want to force employers to pay for travel to and from work
A draft on the obligation of employers to pay for travel to their place of work will be submitted to the State Duma
A group of LDPR deputies, led by party leader Leonid Slutsky, plans to introduce a bill to the State Duma that would oblige employers to provide transportation for their employees to and from work if public transport is not available, writes RIA Novosti.
According to the LDPR press service, the project will be submitted to the State Duma for consideration on October 3.
“The bill proposes amending Article 22 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, adding to the employer’s obligations to provide travel for workers in cases where it is impossible to use public transport (for example, during night shifts, an insufficiently developed transport network or in emergency situations),” the explanatory note says note.
It is also noted that the project was finalized taking into account the opinion of the Russian Tripartite Commission for the Regulation of Social and Labor Relations, which supported its concept.
"This initiative arose after communication with voters. Many of them face injustice when they are forced to return home from work late at night by taxi at their own expense, since public transport often does not operate after 11:00 pm. Without a personal car, people are left with the only option - to call a taxi, which has become much more expensive. As a result, the real income of night shift employees is reduced. Our bill is aimed at eliminating this problem,” said deputy Evgeniy Markov, one of the authors of the initiative.
He stressed that the financial responsibility for paying for travel in such conditions should be borne by the employer in order to ensure fair working conditions for workers and not leave them to fend for themselves.
