In Novosibirsk, the criminal case against Sergei Bagaev, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scientific director of the Institute of Laser Physics (ILF) of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was closed. This was announced by his Gennady Shishebarov.

Bagaev was accused of fraud on an especially large scale.

“The case was dismissed due to the lack of corpus delicti, Bagaev was explained the right to rehabilitation,” the lawyer said.

The media previously reported that the case was initiated because of a contract worth 2 million rubles for the development of the optical system of the laser. The contract was concluded with a subsidiary commercial structure of the institute, which was led by Bagaev. The work was carried out by ILF employees using the institute’s equipment, so the investigation considered the contract to be fictitious.

The lawyer noted that the Prosecutor General’s Office intervened in the case. By her decree, the case materials were transferred to the Investigative Committee, which eventually decided to close it.

Earlier, on the same episode, the case of abuse of power against the director of the institute Alexei Taychenachev was closed.
