“We have been going to this work for a long time”

On September 20, actor and director Sergei Puskepalis died in an accident in the Yaroslavl region as a result of a collision between an armored Ford Transit and a truck. Many cultural figures spoke about the loss of the artist, and actor, director and producer Igor Ugolnikov said that Puskepalis did not have time to finish work on their joint film dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.

In an interview with Lenta.ru Ugolnikov said that Puskepalis began filming in one of the main roles in the film “Call sign “Cranes”” about the everyday life of front-line intelligence in 1943. According to the director, the artist had his first shooting day a few days ago and the first episode was filmed with his participation. As the artist noted, they had an agreement that on September 20, Puskepalis would come to the shooting in an armored car he had purchased.

Ugolnikov clarified that the actor asked him to have the artists apply camouflage to this car during the shooting. The director added that after the completion of the filming process, Puskepalis was supposed to leave in this car for the Donbass, and what happened next is already known.

The artist admits that they have known each other for many years and were on friendly terms. Ugolnikov noted with annoyance that he could not call him his close friend, although “I would very much like to.”

The director emphasized that he and Puskepalis had been walking for a long time to the film “Callsign Cranes”. According to Ugolnikov, they never had a chance to work together and they were very happy that they would be there, and wanted to fulfill a dream that is now not destined to come true. In conclusion, the artist said that he was very upset, and recalled the words of Puskepalis that he liked the studio so much that he declared that he would not leave anywhere from there, demanded that he put up a tent for him so that he could live there.
