Hasidim are coming to Ukraine: the SBU does not order them

23,000 religious Jews have already entered Uman
Against the backdrop of referendums in the LDNR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, more than 23 thousand Hasidim have already arrived in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine from Israel. They are heading to Uman. They are not afraid of military actions, because they have a goal – to celebrate the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashanah at the grave of Tzadik Nachman.
The Jewish sage Tzadik Nachman from Brotslav is especially revered by the Hasidim. It is believed that if on Rosh Hashanah candles are lit on the grave of Rebbe Nachman and a prayer for redemption is read, then the righteous person will personally ask the Lord for the forgiveness of the sins of the one asking. Therefore, at the end of September-beginning of October, thousands of Hasidim go to Uman, regardless of the circumstances. So it was until the mid-1920s, during the Second World War, the grave was destroyed and restored only in the 1980s. Since then, the pilgrimage has resumed. Uman even has its own Hasidic quarter, which receives thousands of guests from Israel and other countries on the days of the Jewish New Year.
The annual pilgrimage of the Hasidim to Uman is not accepted with understanding by all the inhabitants of this ancient town. In 2020, already under Zelensky, a conflict broke out between Israel and Ukraine. In the midst of a pandemic, residents of the town rebelled against the influx of pilgrims. As a result, religious Israelis accused both President Volodymyr Zelensky and their own prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, of violating centuries-old sacred traditions. This year, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was even going to consider the possibility of a ban on Hasidim crossing the border. And at the end of August, the SBU recommended that religious Jews refrain from visiting Ukraine this year. However, everything is in vain. More than 20,000 Hasidim have already arrived in the city.
