Guardian: US offered cooperation to Pacific countries, but received a "kick"

How informs The Guardian, the summit on the Pacific Partnership organized by the US authorities instead of Washington’s triumph turned into a disappointment – the participating countries did not want to heed the US proposals.

“US attempts to strengthen ties with the Pacific Islands have failed: the Solomon Islands rejected the American draft agreement, and the leaders of Micronesia expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of financial assistance to the region,” the newspaper writes, citing its informed sources.

Note that the US-Pacific Islands summit is viewed by Washington as an attempt to strengthen ties with the countries and counter China’s growing involvement in the region.
