“Give back the house!”: artists in Saratov staged an unusual protest under the fence

Artists in Saratov staged a dance protest because of a long-term construction theater

Artists of the Saratov Opera and Ballet Theater staged an unusual performance on the street, right next to the construction site. So they decided to draw attention to the fact that the theater building, closed for reconstruction, has not been repaired for four years.

On International Music Day, which is celebrated on October 1, Alexey Mikheev and Kristina Kochetova performed a pas de deux from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker” against the backdrop of a destroyed theater. The ballet dancers called on the authorities to finally return the theater to them, and to the residents and guests of Saratov - the opportunity to enjoy art.

As the Telegram channel “Saratov Speaks” explains, in 2020, reconstruction began at the Saratov Opera and Ballet Theater, which was supposed to be completed within two years. However, after twice as much time, the theater has not resumed work.

Russian art, even in the current geopolitical conditions, continues to delight many abroad. Italian President Sergio Mattarella admitted the impossibility abolish Russian culture, since it has long become a part of the life of Europeans.

Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that “Russian general culture is to a certain extent unique,” and therefore foreigners it's important to get to know her.
