German RWE agreed on gas supplies from the UAE

German energy company RWE has signed an agreement to supply Germany with the first batch of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). This is stated in a press release published on the RWE website.

“ADNOC and RWE have signed an agreement to supply the first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Elbehafen LNG at Brunsbüttel near Hamburg,” reported in company.

Deliveries will arrive at the port of Elbehafen. RWE has chartered one of two floating storage and regasification units on behalf of the German government. The cargo will head from Das Island to Abu Dhabi and arrive in Germany at the end of December, RWE notes. We are talking about the supply of 137,000 cubic meters. m of gas, Berlin will receive gas through the floating terminal in Brunsbüttel for the first time.

“This is an important milestone in building Germany’s LNG supply infrastructure and ensuring a more diversified gas supply,” says RWE.

The companies also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on multi-year LNG supplies starting in 2023. “Accelerating the energy transition remains the key to overcoming both the current energy crisis and the climate crisis,” said RWE CEO Markus Krebber.

After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, Germany is trying to replace gas supplies from Russia. In March, German Economics Minister Robert Habek said that during his visit to Qatar he had agreed on cooperation in the energy sector, which in the future provides for the possibility of supplies. However, in May it became known that the countries did not agree on the main terms of supply. In September, Germany, despite the shutdown of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, filled its gas storage facilities by 85%.
