Visitors were invited to be museum workers

In the state museum and exhibition center “ROSIZO” these days a “total installation” has become available to the audience, representing over nine hundred objects of decorative and applied art of the second half of the 20th century.

The center began to “open funds” on September 28, offering visitors to look at museum objects through the eyes of a curator. The organizers explained the philosophy of the exhibition as follows: “getting into the museum, the object is removed from its usual context. In the case of a work of arts and crafts, this happens even more paradoxically, because the object loses its integral applied component and becomes a museum exhibit: a vessel from which one cannot drink, a candlestick in which a candle is unlikely to be lit, a toy that cannot be used. to play.”

As a result, three components were identified in the “Expectation” installation: two “fund storage facilities” and a “custodian’s office”. Thus, in the space of the exhibition, a desktop, a file cabinet and a telephone appeared, in which the conversation between the curator and the curator of the exhibition sounds. All this makes it possible, avoiding showcases and plates with explanations and signatures, to see the exhibits from a different angle, ceasing to be a spectator and becoming a professional museum worker for a moment.

Project curator Alina Koren calls the installation “an invitation to an individual, personal study of art objects.”
