Since February 2022, when Russia launched a special military operation, Ukraine has shelled the border areas of the Russian Federation more than 2,000 times, declared TASS First Deputy Director – Head of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia, General of the Army Vladimir Kulishov.

According to him, since February last year in the Russian border area, the number of shelling from the territory of Ukraine of military, border, transport and energy infrastructure, including with the use of drones, has increased.

With the start of the NVO on the Russian-Ukrainian section of the border, “threats of a military nature have escalated,” Kulishov said. Speaking about the activities of sabotage and reconnaissance groups, he recalled the penetration of the DRG into the Belgorod region on May 22. At the same time, he stated that the grouping of forces and means of the border service, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Russian Guard had stopped the armed incursion into the territory of the region.

According to Kulishov, by decision of the president, the operational, combat and technical potential of the border agencies is being increased, additional measures have been taken to provide engineering and technical cover for the state border, including the creation of a system of defensive fortifications. In addition, the counterintelligence regime has been strengthened in the border areas of the Bryansk, Kursk, Rostov, Belgorod, Voronezh regions and in the Crimea.

On May 22, due to the penetration of saboteurs in the Belgorod region, a counter-terrorist operation regime was introduced, which was canceled the next day. On May 23, the Ministry of Defense reported that a group of saboteurs had been blocked and defeated. As a result, more than 70 saboteurs, four combat armored vehicles and five pickup trucks were destroyed. Andrey Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Committee on Defense, announced the need create in the Russian regions, a joint headquarters for the protection of the state border with Ukraine, which will coordinate the work of all representatives of law enforcement agencies.
