France allowed power outages in the winter

In France, in the event of a shortage of energy in the winter, gas will not be turned off in houses, but spot power cuts are possible. This was stated by the head of the French Committee for the Regulation of Energy (CRE) Emmanuelle Vargon.

“In the case of electricity, when we use all possible measures to reduce (consumption), we can face the most severe cases ... that is, spot outages for several hours on a relatively small scale,” she told France Info.

According to her, shutdowns are possible on a commune or quarter scale. These measures are exceptional, but such a scenario cannot be called impossible, Vargon said.

She also said that when there is a power shortage, businesses and households will first receive notifications to cut consumption. If this does not help, then power outages may begin.
