Forensic examination did not find signs of extremism in the song of the group “Pornofilmy”

By order of the court, specialists from the Scientific Research Center for Forensic Expertise conducted a psychological and linguistic examination of the song “Kill the Beggars!” group “Porn Movies”. This was announced by the head of the international human rights group “Agora” Pavel Chikov. According to him, the experts concluded that the text of the composition does not contain signs of extremism.
As Mr. Chikov reported in Telegram, the experts “came to the conclusion that the text of the composition belongs to the genre of satire.” “The song is more than half the same as Kill the Poor by American punk rock band The Dead Kennedys. The main meaning and purpose of the work is a sharp denunciation of the murder of the poor by the rich and those in power,” he said.
The Dzerzhinsky Court of Volgograd in September 2021 recognized the song “Kill the Beggars!” extremist material. Lawyers for the Network Freedoms project appealed the court’s decision, citing the conclusions of linguists and musicologists. The defenders stated that neither the court nor the prosecutor’s office understood the meaning of the work.
On February 17, 2022, the lawyers’ appeal was granted. A business sent for a new trial in the same court in a different composition. As part of the case, a re-examination was appointed, which confirmed the position of the lawyers. The hearing will take place on September 26th.
After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the Russian punk rock group Pornofilmy made anti-war statements. In August, the vocalist and founder of the group Vladimir Kotlyarov filed a statement to the police because of his posts on Telegram and Instagram (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). RIA Novosti wrote that the man who contacted the police noted that the musician’s statements on social networks may contain signs of extremism.
