Footballer of the Russian national team can change citizenship to Armenian

Dynamo Moscow midfielder and Russian national team Arsen Zakharyan is exploring the possibility of changing Russian citizenship to Armenian, Armenian journalist Hrach Khachatryan reported.

This will reportedly allow Zakharyan to change sports citizenship as well. At the same time, the footballer has already played for the Russian national team, and therefore his performance for other teams is prohibited by FIFA rules. The report says that FIFA can meet the player halfway and make an exception for him.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian team would not be allowed to qualify for the European Championship 2024, and the period of suspension restrictions was not indicated. In addition, in the summer transfer window, due to anti-Russian sanctions, Zakharyan's transfer to Chelsea failed.

On September 24, Zakharyan, due to an injury, did not get into the Russian national team's squad for the match against the Kyrgyz national team.
