Flights of Russian airlines to Turkey are carried out as usual


The earthquake in the Turkish and Syrian regions did not affect the flights of Russian airlines, the Federal Air Transport Agency said. Flights to Turkey are carried out as usual. At the same time, the operation of some airports in Turkey has been suspended.

“Flights in the airspace of the Republic of Turkey are carried out regularly, air transportation in the region is under the control of the Federal Air Transport Agency,” the press service of the department said (quote from TASS).

Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said that the airports of Kahramanmaras and Gaziantep have stopped serving civilian flights due to the earthquake. Hatay airport is also closed.

“Hatay Airport in the city of Antakya was put out of action due to the destruction of the runway. The airports of Kahramanmarash and Gaziantep are closed for civil flights,” Fuat Oktay said on the air of the TV channel TRT (translation by TASS).

TV channel CNN Turk released footage of the Hatay airport's runway damaged by the earthquake. The province is located about 149 km from Kahramanmaras, where an earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck at 4:17 am.

According to the latest data, as a result of the last earthquake in Turkey, 284 people died, 2383 were injured. In neighboring Syria, 237 people died and 639 were injured. Information about the affected Russians is not yet available.

7.8 magnitude earthquake happened in southern Turkey, near the city of Gaziantep. The tremors were felt in the nearby provinces of Hatay, Osmaniye, Adiyaman, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Malatya and Adana. There were also earthquakes in several Syrian provinces.
