festival of goals but also of blunders during this first day...

This first week of the Champions League has been very prolific in goals but also in blunders. From Gulasci to Hermoso via Gomez, a look back at the big mistakes of this C1 day.

Gulasci out of control

Peter Gulasci receives the trophy for the biggest blunder of this first day of the Champions League. For their entry into the running, RB Leipzig experienced a humiliation at home against Shakhtar Donestk (1-4 defeat). One of the unfortunate architects of this rout is called Peter Gulasci. The Hungarian goalkeeper started the game very badly for his team by offering a goal to the Ukrainian team (15th). Yet very experienced, the 32-year-old doorman, after receiving an innocuous ball 30 meters beyond his cage, strangely chained the checks until the last one was completely missed. The leather slips from his feet and lands in the race of the Ukrainian striker Marian Shved, who has only pushed the ball into the back of the net. This is only the beginning of the nightmare for the goalkeeper who will finally concede three more goals in the match.

Hermoso and his wandering hand

The tense meeting between Atletico de Madrid and FC Porto settled in stoppage time. As a hero first, Mario Hermoso opened the scoring with a shot blocked in the 91st minute and thought he was the saviour. But four minutes later, on a long touch from Porto played in the area, the defender saw the ball bounce on his stomach and spin to the left. Strangely, the Spaniard stretches his arm and slides the ball over it. No dispute possible, the referee of the meeting whistles the penalty spot. Colombian midfielder Uribe does not need to be asked and equalizes for the Portuguese club. This error could have cost the victory to Colchoneros but Antoine Griezmann, returned during the game, delivers his team in the 101st minute.

Gomez, straight to the point

Like Liverpool (4-1 loss to Napoli), Joe Gomez had a disastrous evening. The English international is almost at fault on all the goals conceded by the Reds. Difficult to choose the action on which the defender made the most serious error. And yet, there is one that can stand out. While his team is only 1-0 down, the central defender receives a ball that seems harmless. In front of the pressing of the Neapolitan striker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, he retreated to, it seems, pass the leather to his goalkeeper. But Joe Gomez surprisingly starts in a dribble on the left without seeing behind him the Georgian who recovers the ball and goes towards the goal. This blunder then brings the second goal of the Italians (30th).

The other dumplings

Other dumplings were seen during this first day of the Champions League. We can note Mbemba's failed tackle which partly condemned Marseille, the goal against his camp of the interiorist D'ambrosio or even the completely missed outing of Donnarumma. This Thursday evening, place in the Europa League where we hope, the three French clubs, Nantes, Rennes and AS Monaco, will not commit any blunders.
