Federation Council proposed to limit the import of veterinary drugs from unfriendly countries

The Federation Council proposed to limit the import of veterinary drugs from unfriendly countries, write "Izvestia" with reference to the recommendations to the government of the parliamentary committee on agrarian and food policy and environmental management.

The document proposes to introduce duties of 35% on the import of pharmacology for animals. According to senators, this is expedient because of "the presence of sufficient volumes of domestic production of their analogues." This fee is already introduced Cabinet decree on a number of other goods from unfriendly countries - in particular, on detergents and cleaning products, deodorants, certain types of weapons and shampoos.

Senator Lyudmila Talabaeva believes that Russia needs to reduce its dependence on foreign imports of veterinary drugs. “There are drugs that have analogues in Russia or they can be purchased on alternative markets. Today it has become obvious that we must increase our production, as well as cooperate with those countries that are also interested in this,” the committee member noted.

At the same time, Denis Kolbasov, director of the Federal Research Center for Virology and Microbiology, believes that “domestic [продукт] does not always mean quality. The expert noted that the introduction of restrictions would be appropriate if Russia produced the required number of veterinary drugs of all categories.

On May 12, Sergei Lisovsky, member of the Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues declaredthat veterinary drugs should be labeled on a par with pharmaceuticals. “We have very big problems with veterinary drugs. Especially now, when the admission to the market due to the current international situation of conscientious manufacturers, including foreign ones, is limited. And here, of course, it is necessary to restore order, as it was in the pharmaceutical system,” the deputy explained.

At the beginning of April 2022, Yan Muzalevsky, head physician of the Alisa network of Moscow veterinary clinics told Vedomosti that Russian veterinary clinics are faced with a shortage of drugs for anesthesia. At the same time, the chief anesthesiologist of the veterinary clinic "Biocontrol" at the Russian Cancer Research Center named after V.I. Blokhin Evgeny Kornyushenkov.
