Famous Japanese wrestler and politician Antonio Inoki dies



In Japan, one of the most famous mixed martial arts fighters Antonio Inoki has died at the age of 80. This was reported by the agency Kyodo. The cause of death was not named.

Antonio (Kanji) Inoki was born in February 1943 in Japan. The family later moved to Brazil. At the age of 17 he was noticed by Mitsuhiro Momota. It was one of the most influential people in world wrestling. It was he who came up with the pseudonym “Antonio” for the young man.

One of Antonio Inoki's most famous fights is against world boxing champion Muhammad Ali. It took place in 1976.

After the end of his sports career, Inoki became a member of the Japanese Parliament. In this role, he repeatedly visited the DPRK. During his trips, he tried to resolve the problem of the Japanese abducted by the North Korean special services.

Three years ago, in 2019, Inoki announced his retirement from politics.
