Expert Yushkov admits US involvement in what happened at Nord Stream

“This action was planned”

On September 27, a pressure drop was recorded in three strings of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, and the day before, a similar incident occurred at Nord Stream 2. According to Igor Yushkov, an energy expert, only the United States can benefit from the failure of two Russian gas pipelines at once.

In an interview with the newspaper “Vzglyad” Yushkov stated that “history looks wild”. The expert believes that it is one thing when one line of one gas pipeline is damaged, since in this case the incident could be attributed to a technical defect during welding of joints, to mechanical damage by an anchor, or something similar. However, as the specialist noted, when three threads fail at once, this can hardly be called an accident.

Yushkov recalled that all the pipes are located quite close, but “it is impossible to accidentally plow them with an anchor.” The expert considers it important to take into account the fact of threats from the United States, which were received earlier. The specialist clarified that US President Joe Biden at the beginning of the year argued that Russia’s actions against Ukraine would lead to the fact that there would simply be no Nord Stream 2, and now “suddenly” both gas pipelines are out of order.

In addition, the expert also considers Poland’s recent statements that it is necessary to dismantle Nord Stream 2 to be strange. According to Yushkov, “this action was planned.” The specialist admitted that Russia could be blamed for the fact that Gazprom simply pumped gas out of the pipe, but the fact that the Danes recorded a methane leak near one of the islands makes this version untenable.

Yushkov is convinced that this story is only beneficial for the United States, since they thereby burn the bridges of gas cooperation between Europe and Russia, because the Russian Federation now does not have the technical ability to supply the necessary volumes of gas to the EU, and the recovery, in turn, will be long. The expert stressed that this is unprofitable for Russia, especially since our country has repeatedly declared its readiness to negotiate and wanted to increase its negotiating position, therefore, “drying” the European market in this way is “not good for us”.

In addition, according to the expert, the Europeans do not need it either, because it was important for them to maintain at least the technical ability to receive gas from Russia in an emergency, but now they will have to buy only LNG and trade with other countries.
