Evgeny Prigozhin told how he created Wagner PMC

Businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin responded to a request from the Paper newspaper about his involvement in the creation of the Wagner PMC. Published by the press service of the Concord company (belongs to Mr. Prigozhin, he prefers to communicate with the media through it) comments the businessman said that he considers the "Wagnerites" "the basis of Russian patriotism", and also told how the military campaign was created. Mr. Prigozhin was repeatedly associated with PMCs, but he did not officially confirm his involvement.

The businessman said that in 2014 he, “like many other businessmen, went to the training grounds where the “Cossacks” gathered and tried to waste money in order to recruit a group that would go and protect the Russians” in Ukraine. As a result, he decided to fly to one of the training grounds and "took it himself." “I myself cleaned the old weapons, figured out the bulletproof vests myself and found specialists who could help me with this. From that moment, on May 1, 2014, a group of patriots was born, which later acquired the name BTG "Wagner",” says Yevgeny Prigozhin in a comment.

“Now is the time for revelation,” he said. “For a long time I avoided the blows of many opponents with one main goal - so as not to set up these guys, who are the basis of Russian patriotism. And he won on this occasion in numerous courts, including abroad, because in any case there should always be a place for sports and matches must be won on the opponent’s field, ”says Mr. Prigozhin.

The media wrote that the Wagner PMC was formed from the Slavic Corps PMC, which has been operating in Syria since 2013, and is based in the Krasnodar Territory. The Bell reportedthat the General Staff proposed to create a company in the late 2000s. Yevgeny Prigozhin denied his connection with the Wagner PMC for several years and repeatedly sued the media because of this. In particular, in 2021 he sued "Echo of Moscow" and for publication The Insider (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent and an undesirable organization). After falling under EU sanctions in 2022, he named PMC itself non-existent and also filed an application with the court. Also demanded initiate criminal proceedings against the Meduza journalist (included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of media outlets of foreign agents) after they requested information about the Wagner PMC.

September on social media video appeared, in which a man who looks like businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin recruits prisoners from one of the colonies to participate in a military operation in Ukraine as part of the Wagner PMC. The press service of the Concord company called the man in the video "monstrously similar" to a businessman and noted that he also "has a very well-delivered speech." Mr. Prigozhin himself saidthat those who do not want private military companies and prisoners to take part in the conflict can send their children to the front.

Since September 21, partial mobilization has been announced in Russia by decree of Vladimir Putin. September 23 Evgeny Prigozhin informedthat his son Pavel is in hot spots as part of the Wagner PMC.
