In Yekaterinburg, on the eve of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the city, one of the best sports facilities in the Urals began its work. Athletics complex "Kalininets" was reconstructed for a year and a half. Various sectors were renovated, an ice arena appeared, a swimming pool was repaired, a new covering of running tracks was laid, screens, lighting masts, stands, etc. were installed. Financing amounted to 2.5 billion rubles. According to the governor of the Sverdlovsk region, Yevgeny Kuyvashev, there are no such complexes in Russia anymore.

"The stadium gave a lot of big names"

On June 1, on Children's Day, a reconstructed athletics stadium of the Kalininets sports complex was opened in Yekaterinburg. The commissioning of the facility was a gift to the capital of the Urals for the 300th anniversary.

“I sincerely rejoice with you at the opening of a grandiose sports facility. As experts say, there are no such people in our country, - Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev said at the ceremony. - I wish that Olympic champions will definitely be brought up at this stadium. And let this stadium give strength, confidence and desire to play sports.”

The head of Yekaterinburg, Alexei Orlov, thanked the government of the Sverdlovsk region and personally the governor for the fact that they pay great attention to the development of children's, mass and professional sports.

“Only this year, such facilities as the Palace of Rhythmic and Aesthetic Gymnastics, the Palace of Judo, the Palace of Water Sports were opened in the city - there has never been such a facility in Yekaterinburg,” said Alexei Orlov. – Stadium [«Калининец»] traces its history back to 1947 and was built by the Kalinin Machine-Building Plant. This stadium gave the Sverdlovsk region and Yekaterinburg many big names, and I am absolutely sure that new sports stars will be born here.”

The head of Yekaterinburg stressed that over its long history, the Kalininets athletics stadium has brought up a considerable number of talented athletes who have honorably represented the capital of the Urals at the highest level competitions.

A large-scale reconstruction of the Kalininets sports and recreation complex has been underway since the fall of 2021. During this time, the swimming pool and gyms were repaired, an indoor ice arena and an administrative and amenity complex with stands for five thousand seats were erected.

During the reconstruction, the triple jump sector was equipped, the shot put sector was repaired, the sectors for pole vault and long jump, hammer and discus throwing were reorganized. A new synthetic surface appeared on the running tracks, two new LED screens and four lighting masts were installed at the stadium. The total amount of financing for the reconstruction of facilities amounted to more than 2.5 billion rubles, including 2.2 billion rubles from the regional budget.

"One of the best"

Just a few days after the opening, Kalininets hosted the championship and championship of the Ural Federal District among athletes under 23 in athletics.

“The main arena of “Kalininets” has nine lanes. There is also a warm-up arena with a full 400-meter circle and another separate warm-up field for throwers very close by. I don’t remember such stadiums in our country, - said the Olympic champion, head coach of the Russian national athletics teams Yuri Borzakovsky. – This is definitely one of the best stadiums in Russia. For this, I would like to thank the governor and his entire team.”

350 athletes from six regions of Russia took part in the championship and championship of the Ural Federal District. In two days, 85 sets of awards were raffled off at Kalininets. The competitions have become a kind of test for all the services of the stadium before the main athletics tournaments of this summer in Yekaterinburg - the Russian championship among juniors and juniors under 23, starting on June 30, and the final of the Queen of Sports series, which will be held from August 17 to 19.

“Athletics is loved and known in the Sverdlovsk region. More than 53,000 Ural residents in 69 municipalities of the region are engaged in it, - said the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the region Leonid Rapoport. – I am sure that this facility will give a new impetus to the development of the “Queen of Sports”.

Athletics is the basic sport for the Sverdlovsk region. To date, more than 6 thousand children and adolescents are involved in sports training programs in 37 municipalities.
