EU to discuss issuing humanitarian visas to Russians evading mobilization

The European Commission intends to discuss with the EU countries the issue of the possibility of issuing humanitarian visas to Russians who decide to leave the country after the announcement of partial mobilization, said EC representative Anita Hipper.
“The European Union must guarantee the right of entry for all persons in need of asylum,” she said (quoted by TASS). She added that “the EU countries intend to consider the possibility of issuing humanitarian visas to these persons.”
“EU border control should be carried out on the basis of EU norms, but it is up to the EU member states to study each case on an individual basis,” Hipper concluded.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics the day before declaredthat the country will not issue humanitarian visas to Russians who are trying to evade partial mobilization. Estonia made a similar statement. Since September 19, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland have closed entry for Russian citizens with EU tourist visas.
September 21 Russian President Vladimir Putin announced partial mobilization in the country. Thus, only citizens who are in the reserve are subject to military service, and above all those who have served in the ranks of the Armed Forces, have certain military registration specialties and relevant experience.
At the same time, in the State Duma notedthat they do not plan to restrict the movement of those liable for military service.
