Estonian Ambassador to Russia Margus Laidre left his Moscow residence, a source in diplomatic circles told RIA Novosti.
Laidre is reported to have left early in the morning in one car.
The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier issued a statement about lowering the level of diplomatic relations with Estonia. The text noted that Tallinn “took a new unfriendly step”, radically reducing the number of the Russian embassy. Such a step, as emphasized in Moscow, “confirms the line towards the collapse of relations between the countries.”
The Russian side reportedly responded by downgrading the diplomatic representative to charge d’affaires.
Both ambassadors, according to the decisions and statements made, were ordered to leave the countries on February 7.
