Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he had discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin the launch of flights to Northern Cyprus. His words are broadcast by the A Haber TV channel.

“I also raised the issue of Northern Cyprus during our talks with Russian President Putin…Of course, we will be happy if direct flights from Russia to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus begin,” the Turkish leader said.

He added that the Russian Federation “has a very high tourism potential”, and tourism is one of the main sources of income for Turkey and Northern Cyprus. The flow of Russian tourists will lead to a big economic leap, Erdogan believes.

CNN Turk previously reported that flights from Russia to Northern Cyprus could begin in November.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is recognized as an independent state only by Turkey and depends on its economic and military support.
