In October 2022, Erdogan announced that he was ready to hold telephone conversations with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine. Then he planned to do it “in the coming days.” On October 4 of the same year, Zelensky signed a document refusing to negotiate with Russia as long as Putin is its president.
The Turkish President has repeatedly advocated ending the conflict. On February 24 of this year, Erdogan, during telephone conversations with Putin, said that Ankara was in favor of establishing peace in Ukraine without further casualties and destruction. On the same day, the Turkish president also told Zelensky that Turkey was ready to contribute to achieving peace in the country.
On January 11, Turkish Ombudsman Sheref Malkoç said that within the framework of a trilateral meeting of the Ombudsmen of Turkey, Russia and Ukraine, the parties could agree on the opening of a humanitarian corridor to help victims in connection with the situation in Ukraine. Then Erdogan supported the idea of organizing humanitarian corridors for the wounded. According to him, Turkey is ready to take over their treatment.
