Exports of coal and natural gas from Russia to China reached a historical record in August. About it reported Embassy of the Russian Federation in China with reference to the Main Customs Administration of China.

China imported $409.37 million worth of natural gas from Russia last month, according to customs data, the highest since January 2017, when Chinese customs statistics began to be published.

Coal exports from the Russian Federation to China in August also reached a maximum for five years – 8.542 million tons. Compared to July, supplies increased by 15%, in annual terms – by 57%.

In August, the EU embargo on the purchase of coal from Russia came into force, which forced it to redirect its exports to other countries. The main buyer of Russian coal at the moment is China, followed by India. According to the CoalMint agency, imports of Russian coal into the country also reached a record in August – 2.3 million tons.
