Representatives of Russia completed the first stage of the International Chess Federation Grand Prix series in Astana with different results. Ekaterina Lahno was successful on Kazakh soil, she went the distance undefeated and scored eight points in 11 games. Alexandra Goryachkina, who took the second position, had half a point less. Alexandra Kosteniuk finished fourth with six points, while Polina Shuvalova closed the list of a dozen participants in this stage with four points.

In total, 16 chess players are involved in the competition, each of which must play in three of the four FIDE Grand Prix stages. The rest of the battles at the boards will take place next year - from February 1 to February 14 in Germany, in March in India and in May in Poland. The two best athletes in terms of total results will be eligible to play in the FIDE Candidates Tournament in the 2023/2024 season.

The prize fund of each stage is 80,000 euros. A similar fee will be distributed at the end of the series among the eight strongest chess players.
