Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova accused Gazprom of reducing daily supplies by a third

“Gazprom” for October reduced the volume of supplies to Moldova by 30%, said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrey Spinu. According to him, Moldova will receive 5.7 million cubic meters. m of gas per day instead of 8.06 million cubic meters. m. Mr. Spinu said at a press conference that Moldovagaz would ask Gazprom for additional gas volumes. “Moldovagaz has already submitted an application for additional gas volumes for every day, from October 1 to October 7. Gazprom has not responded yet,” the Deputy Prime Minister said (quote from Interfax).

He specified that if Gazprom refuses, Moldovagaz will try to increase gas supplies from alternative sources. “But the problem is the price. At present, the most favorable price is the price stipulated in the contract between Moldovagaz and Gazprom,” Andrei Spinu said.

He said that Gazprom argued the reduction in supplies for technical reasons. “We believe that there are no such problems. Especially in a situation where there is a signed agreement and volumes agreed in advance,” the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister stressed. Mr. Spinu added that “there is also liability for violation” of the contract, and the lawyers of “Moldovagaz” are already “studying this issue.”

In October 2021, Gazprom extended a five-year contract for the supply of gas to Moldova, subject to timely payment of debts. Last week Moldovagaz paid Deliveries to Gazprom in August. Yesterday, on September 30, the company repaid the debt for September for $30 million. Authorities of Moldova decided form a reserve of gas in case of emergency.
