“The head of the Armenian defense department told his Russian counterpart about the situation that has developed as a result of Azerbaijan’s large-scale aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia,” the publication says.
It is noted that the heads of the military departments agreed to take the necessary measures to stabilize the situation in the region.
Earlier, due to the escalation of the situation on the border with Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Prime Minister of Armenia discussed with the Russian leader Azerbaijan’s “provocative actions” against the republic. Later, Pashinyan also held telephone conversations with French President Emmanuel Macron and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
In addition, it became known that the Armenian government turned to Russia, the CSTO and the UN Security Council because of the actions of the Azerbaijani army. Later, information appeared in the Azerbaijani media that the parties agreed on a ceasefire from 09:00 local time (08:00 Moscow time).
On the night of September 13, the Armenian Defense Ministry stated that Azerbaijani troops fired on the border settlements in the south-east of the country – Sotka, Goris and Jermuk. The department clarified that the attack was carried out from artillery pieces and large-caliber weapons. According to the ministry, there are dead and wounded. Also was damaged the administration building of the village of Sotk on the border with Azerbaijan.
At the same time, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry accused Yerevan of escalating the situation. The department reported that Armenian troops mined areas and supply routes between the positions of the Azerbaijani army. The ministry also pointed to shelling from the Armenian side. According to the department, there are dead and injured.
