Chukhrai, head of Russia's Oscar committee, resigns after refusal to nominate film

TASS reports that the head of the Russian Oscar Committee, Pavel Chukhrai, has decided to leave his post due to the refusal of the Russian Film Academy to nominate the film for the Oscar this year.

It is specified that Chukhrai wrote and sent a letter to the members of the Russian Oscar Committee. In it, the director said that this decision was made unilaterally.

“The film academy decided not to nominate the film over the head of the Oscars committee. I think that such actions are illegal. As a sign of protest, I am resigning from my chairmanship and resigning from this organization,” Chukhrai said.

The decision of his colleague was supported by director Nikolai Dostal, who also announced his resignation from the commission.
